A comment on another students teachers VELS thoughts.

It is interesting to read another student teachers thoughts on VELS and ICT.

Below is a copy of my comments on her post http://yebbit.blogspot.com/2011/09/ict-and-vels.html.  Both the original post and comment can be found at the link.

"You make a number of very interesting points Liz.

The points that strike me most are about ICT in education being a reflection of ICT use in the community, and the shift from people adapting to the introduction of computers to people who have grown up with computers and the internet. There is still innovation, and handheld devices and cloud computing is taking off, but the adaptation is cognitively different.

I wonder what that means for students who move from technologically poor areas of the world/country and how they will adapt to ICT and ICT use in the classroom.

In the end all this comes down to education preparing students to interact and communicate in the world they will live in. And ICT is hard to escape, even if you are building a pizza oven or designing a physics experiment.

Unfortunately I can also recognise your statement that ICT is not being integrated into schools "in the collaborative, team-building and problem-solving sense." Teachers can be seen moving in that direction but I have yet to see it realised.

Hopefully we can learn to integrate ICT into our lessons and teaching. It is easier to build it in rather than try and put it on top of planning and in that I think we have the advantage of not being set in our ways."
